WWI Pillbox in Southwold, England

For decades this rare 100 year-old 'Pillbox' or defensive bunker had been neglected and vandalised, until it was about to be demolished in 2023. Built by the military during World War One to guard a strategic bridge over a once-tidal creek on the East Coast of England, this historic monument was rescued and rebuilt by raising funds in the local community, to be turned into a 'Living History' centre. As so many of the original, concentric blocks were thrown into the creek by vandals, the construction team have specially cast replica blocks to complete this small, circular building.
