How This Architect’s Sustainable Cabin Helped Create A Thriving Garden

At just 40 square metres, this compact cabin near Wānaka, New Zealand, is not your average tiny home. Using reclaimed materials and charred timber cladding, Alki Design founder Charlotte Muschamp and her partner Stefan Warnaar created the house to be sustainable and relocatable — leaving room for a thriving biodiverse garden that’s grown around it. Yakisugi Cabin is a low-impact, sustainable, and relocatable home, built in the backyard of an existing property.
