Haikou Workers’ Activity Center by CADG: Climate-Responsive Civic Architecture in Hainan

Haikou Workers’ Activity Center is a 57,411-square-meter cultural and sports complex in Haikou, China, organized as a porous, shaded public landscape. Its stepped steel structure, planted terraces, water systems, and photovoltaic roof respond to the tropical coastal climate while linking sports, training, exhibition, and performance spaces through a continuous network of semi-outdoor circulation. Courtyards and water surfaces interrupt the scale of the large complex and extend its public realm into planted voids.
